The Virtue of the Salaf over the Khalaf

Number of classes: 13 (1 hour per class)

One of the treatises penned by Ibn Rajab al-Ḥanbalī. In it he discusses many topics concerning knowledge, such as beneficial and non-beneficial knowledge, branches of the latter type, signs of both types of knowledge, their foundations, and the difference between the way of the Salaf compared to the way of the khalaf (latecomers) and the first way being the superior one. As is typical for Ibn Rajab’s writing he focusses on one subject whilst bringing many aspects from various Islamic sciences together, such as uṣūl al-fiqh, ‘aqīdah and taṣawwuf. Studying this work is highly beneficial for those who want to deepen their knowledge regarding the methodology of the Salaf and strengthen their own practicing of this approach.
