The introduction of al-Mardāwī’s encyclopaedic fiqh work al-Insaf offers students of the Ḥanbalī Madhhab important material to help further deepen their understanding of its foundational principles and inner workings. Apart from discussing principles, terminologies and primary books of the Ḥanbalī Madhhab, al-Mardāwī lays down his methodology in fiqh. This methodology is of crucial importance to the Ḥanabilah serving as a backbone for subsequent fiqh works that are concerned with detailing the relied upon positions of the Madhhab.
“the authority that al-Mardāwī holds amongst the Ḥanābilah, especially regarding the field of fiqh, is immense. This is for the most part due to the methodology that he established to determine the mu‘tamad. This methodology was and is accepted by subsequent generations of Ḥanbalī scholars after him, and considered one of the greatest contributions to the Ḥanbalī Madhhab. In essence, the methodology of al-Mardāwī consists of listing and ranking certain scholars and books”
